83-Year-Old Asian Grandmother Spit At and Assaulted in New York
The attack is the latest in a string of violent assaults against Asian Americans across the nation.
The violence against Asian Americans continued as Nancy Toh, an 83-year-old Asian grandmother, was spit at and assaulted Tuesday night.
As reported by CeFaan Kim of ABC7, Toh was attacked while walking on a sidewalk in White Plains, New York, when suddenly her assailant came up to her, spit in her face, and punched her in the nose, knocking her unconscious and sending her to the ground.
A good Samaritan eventually saw her lying on the ground and came to help. When Toh eventually regained consciousness, she found herself covered in a pool of her own blood and drenched in pain.
“Bleeding lots from the brain. Looks like pumping out,” Toh said.
A day after the incident, police took 40-year-old Glenmore Nembherd into custody and charged him with felony assault. While there is currently no evidence that the attack was a hate crime, detectives are continuing their investigation.
